how to discourage dog from running away?

Posted in FAQ's on January 7th, 2010

I have a male dog 2 years (cross-Dalmatian Akita). He 's quite intelligent but he has some issues of obedience. Finally I managed to walk into a post, but not ideal (I must remember to stop shooting once in a while when he smells the ground like a maniac). I take it for a walk around once a week, at least recently I 've to take it out more often. It generally leads to a field / park area at a very late night and after I leave the mail. He (sometimes shaky) usually returns as soon as whistle so that he returns. But this time he was off the field and didn 't return, I spent ages looking for it and whistled loudly. In the end, I gave up and went home, only to find waiting for me. If he 's going to happen to this provocation I probably won' t you be getting more so. I 've read that dogs often run away because of sexual instincts and advice that are castrated to prevent this, but I' m not going to do that. Solutions? Thanks for the good answers. Well, I don 't agree with the castration of a dog, because I don' t think it 's human. Of course I understand the importance of doing so to prevent unwanted breeding, and of course it would be easier to control the procedure done, but changing his temperament to adapt to this way of my personal advantage seems barbaric. Sure you feel an animal, but essentially we are well, and I certainly wouldn 't want to lose to Mr. Happy.
